Job Purpose

The Community Coordinator will play a pivotal role in coordinating various community-based initiatives and services aimed at supporting individuals affected by intimate partner violence/gender-based violence. This role will work closely with the Executive Director and Operations team to build community partnerships, provide vital education and awareness programs, and streamline internal processes for effective service delivery. The Community Coordinator will also oversee critical aspects of the MARAM high-risk table, Violence Prevention Grey Bruce Coordinating, and handle all referrals for services to the agency.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in social work, community development, women’s studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in community outreach, program coordination, or related roles in the non-profit or social services sector.

  • Experience working with domestic violence prevention or victim services is preferred.

  • Clear current Police Vulnerable Sector Check

Required Skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with a variety of community stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of MARAM and high-risk case management frameworks is an asset.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, TEAMS, WISH database and case management software.

  • Demonstrates a strong feminist, women’s movement, anti-oppression/anti-racism, and trauma informed analysis, approach, and practice

  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to integrate a feminist perspective on social and political issues surrounding women’s issues, sexual assault, and violence against women

  • Demonstrated understanding of the complexity of issues arising for women who have experienced abuse, homelessness, substance abuse, poverty, and/or mental illness

  • Demonstrated women’s advocacy skills and effective child/women-centered practice delivery

Scope and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with community partners to assess and manage high-risk domestic violence cases through the MARAM (Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management) framework.

  • Lead coordination efforts for the regular meetings of the MARAM high-risk table, ensuring effective communication, data sharing, and action planning.

  • Work with local stakeholders to facilitate the ongoing coordination of the operation functions of the committee (inclusive of subcommittees) and development of Violence Prevention efforts across the Grey Bruce region.

  • Engage with community partners to ensure collaborative approaches to violence prevention programs and services.

  • Receive, assess, and process all referrals for services to Women’s House

  • Maintain accurate documentation and communication with clients, partners, and service providers regarding referrals and follow-up actions.

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to enhance, establish and maintain trust agreements with local businesses and community organizations.

  • Lead the development and review of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with partner organizations, ensuring alignment with agency goals and objectives.

  • Review and evaluate requests for presentations, workshops, and other outreach activities from external organizations, ensuring alignment with the agency’s mission and goals.

  • Coordinate and facilitate presentations as required to promote awareness of domestic violence issues and available services.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs and awareness campaigns aimed at promoting knowledge and prevention of domestic violence within the community.

  • Engage with schools, workplaces, and community groups to increase public awareness and encourage involvement in violence prevention initiatives.

  • Create and execute strategies to increase the organization’s visibility and engagement across various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.).

  • Develop and manage content that aligns with the agency’s mission, including promoting services, community events, educational campaigns, and partnerships.

  • Support the development of social media awareness campaigns focused on violence prevention and support for individuals affected by domestic violence.

  • Monitor and analyze social media metrics to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and adapt strategies as needed to enhance community outreach.

  • Identify areas for improvement within the agency’s internal processes, including referral systems, case management protocols, and communication practices.

  • Work with the team to create and implement strategies to streamline operations and ensure the delivery of high-quality, responsive services.

  • Participates actively in staff meetings, agency development and training, and contributes to an overall team approach

  • Maintains and establishes an in-depth knowledge of all agency programs, and liaises effectively with these programs

  • Follows all Women’s House policies and procedures

  • Participates actively in supervision sessions with the Executive Director

  • Communicates concerns, issues, and problems affecting job performance and program quality to the Executive Director

  • Deals effectively with job related stress, including accessing need for time off and/or professional development

  • Performs other job-related duties as requested by the Executive Director

  • Works in compliance with the Occupation Health and Safety Act (OHSA) & follows all health & safety policies & procedures

  • Takes reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone who may be at risk

  • Identifies and corrects issues that can be addressed immediately

  • Cooperates with the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), and assists inspectors in carrying out their duties

  • Elects JHSC representatives & participates in hazard analysis, as required

  • Reports to Managers anything at work that is likely to be unsafe or hazardous to the health & safety of staff or anyone else & any contravention of the OHSA

  • Reports every accident, injury, illness, or other occurrence arising in the course of, or in connection with work, that has caused injury to staff or another person

  • Participates in health and safety orientation, education, and training

  • Respects the confidentiality of all Women’s House information, including information pertaining to women/children served, staff, volunteers, and organizational operations

  • Maintains a valid driver’s license, access to a car, and two million liability insurance on vehicle

  • Maintains valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification

Working Conditions

Works as part of the Administrative team, in a unionized position primarily out of office locations in Kincardine and Owen Sound, but also in the community as required.

Works a 36-hour work week but may be required to work variable day, evening, night and/or weekend hours.

Physical Effort and Environment

The normal physical working environment is comfortable, indoors in an office or meeting space. Physical demands require extensive computer work, concentration and sitting, and lifting/carrying items. Regular travel to various locations in Bruce and/or Grey County is required.

Mental Effort

The mental strain resulting from the work of the Community Coordinator ranges from moderate to considerable dependent on the number of projects and team/program dynamics. The role of Community Coordinator is mentally demanding and requires emotional resilience and cognitive effort. A thorough understanding of the potential for compassion fatigue, burnout and secondary traumatic stress is paramount.
