Transitional Housing Project
"Rebuilding Hope"
How Can I Help? The Project Links Women's House Home Page
Overview
Transitional Housing or Second Stage Housing is one of the major projects for the Women's House for the next four years through to 2010. This project was initiated to assist women who were victims of violence and other abuse issues, the ability to rebuild hope and establish themselves back into the community as vital and welcome members of society, allowing them the ability to make real choices for themselves and their children. The homes will be built to be affordable, to be safe and to provide support for the medium term (1-2 years).
Mission Statement:
- The Women's House will provide transitional, supportive, secure & affordable housing to women and their children, who are leaving an abusive relationship.
- Further, the Women's House is committed to assisting these women to obtain the support and skills to move forward in their lives with dignity.
Why This is Needed:
- There is a very limited supply of safe & affordable housing
- It is known that poverty decreases success of an abuse free life
- The homes will allow the women and children to remain in their own community/schools
- They will provides safety, stability & networking abilities
- We will provide ongoing support & Counselling. This is shown to increase success
